About Vw Camper Van

Designed in Germany in 1950, the Volkswagen camper van is intended to provide both transportation and accommodation. The van carries, as standard, foldout seats for sleeping arrangements, curtains, a folding table, storage facilities, electrical points and water storage facilities. Optional extras available on some models include air conditioning, a chemical toilet, awnings and side tent and a camping stove. The VW camper van was also sold as a pick-up truck, refrigerator van, delivery van and even an ambulance. Second-hand VWs that were manufactured in the '50s, '60s and '70s were often painted in bright colours and have a distinctive, quirky design that's extremely popular today - and which seems to give the vehicles their own character. Some owners custom-paint their vans to give them even more personality. Modern vans can seat seven people and sleep four, complete with a pop-up roof that contains a double bed and mattress. Optional extras include Bluetooth connectivity, satellite navigation, wireless, heating, and digital TV reception. If you're purchasing a VW camper van second hand, some things to look for are a long MOT, no sign of rust or leaks, and the cost of long-term maintenance. When viewing the van, check the underside, wheel arches, batteries and exterior panels for corrosion, as these problems can be difficult to repair. Lift up the carpet inside to check that none of the floor panels are rotting, and ensure the door is free from corrosion by sliding it back and forth. If the roof lifts up, check it is working correctly, and check the seats fold down correctly. Finally, always take the van for a test drive to ensure all the gears work - replacing the gearbox can be extremely expensive.
