XR3Ford is the world’s third largest manufacturer of automobiles. It was founded by Henry Ford, and is based in Dearborn, Michigan. The company has manufacturing units in many parts of the world including Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom, Germany and China. It's line of cars include Jaguar, Land Rover and the Ford Escort. The Ford Escort was part of the all-new Mk III from the 1980s. It was among the first Escort model to feature a front wheel drive and a transverse mounted engine. With years of experience in manufacturing and marketing, a whole range of engine and trim options was introduced. The XR3, which was a hot hatch version of the Mk III, was created to compete with the Volkswagen's Golf GTI. The XR3 was an instant hit and became a cult car as soon as it was launched in 1981. This was in spite of the absence of fuel injection and the initial lack of a 5-speed transmission. The XR3 came with a tuned version of the 1.6 L CVH engine fitted with a Weber carburettor, up rated suspension and numerous cosmetic alterations. The fuel injection was later introduced in 1983 with the creation of the XR3i along with the racetrack-inspired RS1600. This was followed by the updated version in the form of the turbocharged RS Turbo model in 1985. The XR3 was also available in a three-door hatch body frame. The 1980 Escort XR3 model parts and accessories are available in many online sites. |
