Accessorize

Accessorize, derived from the word accessory, means to decorate or to ornament. There are various connotations to the word "accessorize." Some of the brands sell different accessories labelled under "accessorize". Fashion accessories are used to complement dresses and often add detail to an outfit. They are designed according to the occasion. For example, an accessory for a formal outfit will be jazzier than the one for the casual dress. The range of fashion accessories may comprise of bags, scarves, jewellery, hats, shoes, etc. Many accessories such as bags do have practical uses, apart from style.

If one accessorizes his/her dress, it may give a completely different look. As the trends change, so do accessories. Belt and hair accessories form a contemporary fashion statement; whereas shoes, earrings, beaded necklaces have been traditional accessories for years. Accessories may be also designed as per the time of the day. For example, there are different accessories that are preferred to be worn during the day time such as hats, eyewear, etc; whereas certain accessories may only suit one’s personality during the evening or the night time.

Some accessories may also have cultural connotation. Jewelleries, in some cultures, are considered inappropriate and thus are tabooed; whereas other cultures do not believe in wearing leather accessories, since they involve killing of animals. In Christianity a cross is worn as a pendent indicating Christ’s Crucifixion and the purity rings (in USA) are worn to represent sexual purity.
