BalenciagaBalenciaga is a world renowned fashion house founded by Cristobal Balenciaga. It sells designer clothing for men and women as well as different fashion accessories. Balenciaga’s feminine bubble skirts and ultra modern shapes are the trademark of the house. Balenciaga is currently owned by the Gucci Group. In 1914, the first Balenciaga boutique opened in San Sebastian, Spain. After having success in Spain, Balenciaga opened the Balenciaga Paris couture in 1937. In his first runway show, he featured designs which drew inspiration from the Spanish Renaissance and became an instant hit among the fashion world in Paris. His "square coat" design which had the sleeves cut in a single piece with the yoke gained huge popularity during World War II. Balenciaga women’s clothing was extremely popular, featuring sleek design patterns. In the 1950s, Balenciaga came up with many new, innovative designs like the tunic dress, spherical balloon jacket, high-waist baby doll dress, balloon skirt, cocoon cost and sack dress. Intense fabric work, elaborate embroidery and audacious materials were used in his designs. Collars standing away from the collarbone to give a swan-like appearance and short bracelet sleeves were Balenciaga’s speciality. Accessories like Balenciaga bags, Balenciaga handbags and Balenciaga perfumes are very popular among young women. It recently launched its fall/ winter collection for 2007 which is available on the official Balenciaga website. |
