Basketball

Basketball is a popular team sport played on a court by two teams having five active players on each side. A player can score points by throwing the ball through the basket, which is a hoop set ten feet high. The team with the most points scored under organised rules wins the game. The player can dribble or pass the ball to his team members to move forward on the basketball court. Most rules do not permit disruptive physical contact or fouls. Violations take place if you do not handle the ball in the appropriate manner. Basketball games are usually played in four quarters of ten minutes as per international rules. The basketball nets are usually made from 6 mm, 4 mm or 3 mm braided nylon twine , and have 21" overall length with 12 loop construction.

This game was invented in 1891 by Dr James Naismith, a Canadian physical education instructor. The game has eventually become popular in the US at the high-school level, the college level (NCAA) and the professional league or NBA. The players in the NBA enjoy considerable amount of wealth and fame. Basketball games at the Summer Olympics are highly competitive. Basketball is a sport that has one of the largest viewership throughout the globe.
