BerghausBerghaus is an outdoor clothing brand and equipment manufacturer located in the United Kingdom. Founded by Peter Lockey and Gordon Davison, two keen climbers and mountaineers, the company made its humble start with it's first store in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1966. In 1974-75, the company launched one of its most successful range of rucsacs called the Cyclops. This range was extremely popular for its unique internal frame. The rucsacs available in those days had bulky and uncomfortable external metal frames as well as minimal padding. On the other hand, the Cyclops not only had an internal frame, but also extra padding. The Cyclops Roc, another series introduced in the same period, had Topspan material that added durability to the product. The next milestone was crossed when Berghaus introduced waterproof and breathable Gore-Tex fabric integrated in some of their products. The company later moved on to produce Yeti Gaiter, a range of boots that gave full protection with rubber bands that were initially made from old tractor inner tubes. The concept of an Inter-Active system of outer jackets with zip-in fleeces was launched with the introduction of the Gemini series. The A.B. (Adjustable Back) Carrying System, the unique Occipital Cavity and the Dart daysac added reputation to the company in 1980s. Towards the end of the 1980s, the company instigated one more series of jackets, the Trango Jacket. Later, the company developed different outdoor products especially designed for women. |
