BibaOne of the most popular brands in the 60s and 70s, Biba mainly deals in ready-to-wear clothing collections that are targetted at women in their thirties. A glance at Biba’s collection makes it evident that these creations draw inspiration from Paris models or from Paris Haute-Couture collections. Biba and owner Barbara Hulanicki made a rather humble start with affordable outfits that could be mail ordered. Contrary to its identity today, Biba actually started out as a clothing company for teenagers and women in their twenties. What was more interesting about their collection was that buyers would always find matching accessories with the dresses. Miniskirts adopted a completely new strategyóthey would go shorter every week. Biba is credited with bringing mini skirts in fashion. Biba launched its latest collection in 2006 with designer Bella Fraud. This collection debuted at the London Fashion Week. Additionally, the company announced the introduction of its new collection in 2007, in London. With the present craze for vintage wear, The Biba Experience centres display photographs of Biba collections from the 1980s to the present, comprising about 350 pieces of clothing, merchandises and memorabilia. Be they trousers or dresses, all are displayed in their original sketches and patterns. |
