BurberryBurberry was founded by Thomas Burberry around 1856. He invented the trench coat by modifying its military designs of the World War I to suit the conditions of British contemporary warfare. Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca, Peter Sellers in the Pink Panther films and Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's all contributed to popularise this trench coat. Burberry specially designed aviation garments. Its distinctive check pattern, with red, white, black, and peach, was created in 1920s and used as a lining in trench coats. This check pattern, popularly known as Nova, is now a registered trademark and is used on its products including umbrellas, scarves and luggage. The clothing line for women consists of jackets, trousers, knitwear, shirts, t shirts, skirts, rainwear and dresses. The men’s collection includes rainwear, sweaters, shirts, polo shirts, trousers and swim wear. The accessories comprise of Burberry handbags, bags, wallets, belts, hats, scarves, umbrellas, fragrances, shoes and watches. The check pattern is also used on branded boots, shoes, perfume bottles, bags, etc. Burberry was awarded a Royal warrant by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and a second by The Prince of Whales in 1989. Today, Burberry is an internationally recognised luxury brand with a worldwide distribution network. |
