Calvin Klein

Calvin Klein is a globally renowned fashion designer. Born in ’The Bronx’ on the 19th of November 1942, Calvin received his early education at the High School of Industrial Art. Calvin graduated at the age of 20 from the New York- based Fashion Institute of Technology. Gaining valuable experience in the early 1960s with local clothing manufacturers, he partnered with a childhood friend to start his first company. Later working under Baron de Gunzburg, his fame spread among the city’s fashion aficionados.

In 1968, Calvin opened a coat shop Calvin Klein Ltd., soon after that he featured on the cover of the 1969 Vogue magazine. In the early 1970s, the company’s product range diversified into blazers, sportswear and even women’s lingerie. Showing breakneck-paced growth, Calvin Klein began marketing shoes, scarves, belts, fur coats, cosmetics, jeans and sunglasses. The popularity of the jeans can be garnered from the fact that actress Brooke Shields who featured in the relevant advertisement was famously quoted as saying ’Nothing comes between me and my Calvins’.

The face of the Calvin Klein men’s underwear range was pop singer Mark Wahlberg. In December 2002, the Calvin Klein brand was sold to the famous shirt manufacturing company, Phillips Van Heusen Corporation. Calvin Klein clothing is popular among both celebrities as well as common people.
