Hat

A hat is a head-covering, which is available in different shapes, sizes and colours. Hats may be worn as fashion accessories, for protection against the weather, for reasons pertaining to safety and even for religious reasons. In fashion terms, hats are a very noticeable accessory. A top hat is a cylinder-shaped hat. Top hats are tall, flat-crowned and broad-brimmed. They were very popular throughout the 19th century and the early 20th century. Nowadays, it is usually worn with morning dresses or evening dresses. Trilby hats are stylish hats often associated with jazz musicians. Trilby hats have a very soft and flexible rim in place of a curved brim. Gangster hats, also called ëfedora hatsí, have a brim which can be snapped up and down and they are usually water repellent. Ski hats are knitted hats, usually made of wool or other synthetic fibers, designed with the objective of providing one with warmth when it is extremely cold. Bucket hats are soft cotton hats with downwards sloping brim and broad brim and are worn by both men and women. The brim of the bucket hat provides shade for the sun. Formal hats are worn on special occasions such as weddings.

Another very popular type of hat is the wedding hat. At weddings, the bride wears a hat with a veil. Ladies wedding hats with transparent veils have ceremonial significance. A neatly adorned hat is usually worn by the groom. Some of the popular hat styles preferably worn in todayís world are bowler hats, sun hats, top hats and Fedora. Black, grey and brown are the most popular colours for men while white is the most popular colour amongst the women.
