JeansJeans are a popular form of clothing worldwide and are available in various styles and colours. The origin of jeans can be traced to Genoa in Italy, where the sailors of Genoa Navy used to wear it. Jeans were designed for them as the sailors required versatile trousers that could be comfortably worn even if they were wet and whose legs could be folded upwards. These were conventionally made out of denim, however today they are also made out of fabrics such as corduroy, cotton and linen. During the Gold Rush in California in the 19th century, miners wore jeans as they needed clothing that was very strong. However, the pockets of the minerís jeans came off easily. Jacob Davis came up with the idea of using metal rivets for fastening on the pockets to the jeans so that the pockets wouldnít come off. Davis didnít have sufficient funds to patent his idea, so he wrote to a man called Levi Strauss, who had a wholesale business of supplying clothes, suggesting that they do a business together. Levi Strauss accepted the idea and began the production of copper-riveted 'waist overalls' or jeans. Jeans gained popularity worldwide in the 1970ís as jeans became cheaper. In the 1980ís jeans became a part of fashion clothing. Fits such as boot cuts, low waist, straight fits, slim fits, bottom flares, are just a few styles available in the current market. Brands such as Miss Sixty, Blue Cult, Citizens of Humanity, Diesel and Lee among others offer designer jeans. |
