About Kitsch

Of German origin, the word ’Kitsch’ describes or categorises replicated art that is considered to be of more sub-standard quality than the original or even existing pervasive artistic styles. The word broadly defines and demarcates any object or existing art form of ostentatious taste produced to satisfy volatile consumer demands. Kitsch items include commonly used and availed items found around the household such as kitsch kitchenware, kitsch kitchen clothing, kitsch jewellery, kitsch gift articles for various festivities including Easter, Halloween, Christmas and even New Year, kitsch fancy dresses for any season and reason, etc. Kitsch articles are used in the household by people with different tastes and requirements, which may or may not be occasional. Many people love to collect and/or use articles belonging to the Kitsch line up considering the low-priced mocks of many original paintings, carvings, fashion clothing, etc. The Kitsch line up of consumer goods and products usually reflects a sense of exaggerated sentimentality or melodrama pertaining to art work of the 19th century. Additionally, kitsch art is closely associated with several aspects like sentimental, glamorous, theatrical or creative. Kitsch ideas redefine the way that art is deficient in some ways and tries to incorporate, if not all, several of the aspects mentioned above. The family of Kitsch can also be described as a gesture that imitates many superficial appearances of art. Though Kitsch isn’t considered to be a much respectable form of art by purists and true artisans, this class of products is truly enjoyable due to its unintentional, ironic humour or garishness that adds to the "retro’ value of each of these kinds of Kitsch products.
