Marc JacobsMarc Jacobs is an American fashion designer born on April 9, 1963 in New York City. He completed his graduation from The High School of Art and Designing and continued his studies at The Parson School of Designing. While he was studying at Parson, he launched his first collection of hand-knitted sweaters that were marketed by Barbara Weiser and tagged as ’Marc Jacobs for Marc and Barbara.’ His achievements at the school got him an opportunity to design a ready-to-wear collection for Ruben Thomas Inc. Soon, Jacobs partnered with Robert Duffy to establish Jacobs Duffy Designs Inc. In 1986, Jacobs released his first collection labelled as ’The Marc Jacobs’ and backed by Kashiyama USA Inc. Jacobs gained popularity with the distinction of being the youngest designer ever to be given the Perry Ellis award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. After receiving this award, Marc and Robert joined Perry Ellis as vice-president and president respectively, for the women’s design. In 1992, Jacob received another award - women’s wear designer of the year. Towards the end of 1993, Jacobs and Duffy launched their own licensed design company, Marc Jacobs International Company, LP. Soon enough, the company signed an agreement with Renown Look Inc and Mitsubishi Corporation for distribution in Japan and the introduction of shoes collection followed. Based on Jacobs and Duffy’s wardrobe, the company launched their first ready-to-wear men’s collection in 1995. After the association with Louis Vuitton, Jacobs entered the market of the French luxury house-line including handbags, shoes and small leather goods. Eventually, the product line was extended to fragrances, pillows and accessories as well. |
