Margaret HowellMargaret Howell is a well-known British designer known for timeless, comfortable and contemporary clothes. Born in Surrey in 1946, she had an instinctive interest in clothes ever since she was a child. Margaret started designing her own clothes, when she was a teenager. She got herself a degree in Fine Arts from the Goldsmiths' College of Art in London in 1969. Margaret ventured into fashion by designing accessories and selling them in various London shops. Later, she started creating men’s shirts that were sold to retailers like Joseph Ettedgui, Ralph Lauren and Paul Smith. These shirts were made by her and a small team of machinists at her design studio and workroom in South East London. The men’s shirts got a positive response from the buyers, which made Margaret Howell open a menswear store with Joseph Ettedgui as a partner in 1977. In 1980, she began designing clothes for women. Later, in 2002, she opened a design studio and store in Wigmore Street and in 2006 she opened another store in Fulham Road in London. Margaret Howell clothes are known for comfortable, classic designs and a tailored finish. Some of the fabrics commonly used by her include tweed, linen, cotton and cashmere, among others. The Summer/Spring 2007 Margaret Howell men’s collection includes shirts, trousers, jackets, shorts and ties. These are available in different sizes and colours. Margaret Howell women collection includes jackets, trousers, shirts, tops, skirts, caps and dresses. One can buy these clothes from her stores and stockists. |
