Prada, a high end designer brand is famous for eye-catching handbags, shoes, clothes, accessories and more. Prada is synonymous with style, elegance and luxury. This designer brand was started by Mario Prada in 1913 in Milan. He started out by making leather handbags, trunks and shoes in Europe. The company was inherited by Mario's grand daughter Miuccia Prada in 1978. At that point of time, the company was struggling financially and the sales were down. Miuccia Prada took over the business with intentions of expansions in the world of fashion.

In 1980s, Miuccia Prada launched black hand bags that were simple and elegant in design. These bags became an instant hit among both women and Hollywood celebrities. That same year, Prada launched the first ëpret-a-porter' or ëready-to-wearí collection, besides women shoes. Prada became a sensation in the fashion world in the 1990's because of the inclusion of clean lines, basic colours, and luxurious fabrics.

Miuccia Prada created the Miu Miu line in 1992 for the younger generation evoking a bohemian look with the use of earthy colours. Later, the Prada Sport label was created and was followed by the launch of menís wear and a lingerie collection. In 1993, Prada received the Council of Fashion Designers of America award for accessories. Miuccia Prada was awarded the Designer of the Year award in 1995. The Prada handbags, shoes, bag, clothes, accessories continue to be popular with men and women and are sold all over the world.
