SkirtsA skirt is an item of women’s clothing that hangs downwards from the waist and covers the legs partly or entirely. Also known as a frock or gown, a skirt features a cone-like or tube-like shape. There are some skirts specifically made for men like the traditional kilt, worn in Scotland. There are women skirts - single-piece draped garments that are fitted at the waist. Modern skirts are made from fabrics like cotton, poplin, worsted or denim. The hemline of skirts varies from ground-level up to the thighs of the women as per the choice of the wearer. In medieval times, women wore skirts with large diameters at the bottom. The mini skirts that were introduced in the 1960s were extremely short garments with the hemline well above (approximately 20 cm) the knees. Skirts are available in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, patterns, designs and colours. They are usually worn for more casual occasions like cocktail parties. Big fashion houses offer a wide range of skirts for women in the United Kingdom. There is a great demand for skirt hangers to keep these garments in good condition. |
