Slippers

One needs footwear for protecting one's feet, keeping the feet clean, and also for adorning the feet in an aesthetic manner. Different types of footwear include boots, shoes, and sandals, among others. There are certain specific types of footwear which are worn for different purposes: sports footwear, footwear for dance, safety footwear for certain jobs etc. Even when people are inside their homes they need something comfortable to wear, for which one can wear slippers. Slippers have a soft and lightweight design and they can be put on and taken off easily. The origin of the modern slipper can be traced to the Meiji period in Japan.

These days one can find a wide variety of slippers for men and women having different designs, made out of different materials like leather, sheepskin, felt, terrycloth, etc. Slippers might feature a design like that of a shoe, and so one might need to put their feet in from the top in the same way in which they put on a shoe. However, slippers usually have thin and flexible soles as compared to shoes and boots that feature thicker soles. Most slippers have a rubber or plastic construction making them suitable for being extensively used in wet places like pools and bathrooms. Ladies slippers might also be referred to as flip-flops and sandals.
