A wedding dress or gown is the dress in which you generally see a bride during a wedding. The colour, style and the ceremonial importance of a gown changes along with the change in the culture and religion of the people who attend a wedding.

In present days the colour of western culture wedding dresses is white as it symbolises purity of heart, innocence of childhood and happiness. Although white is the colour that is used largely however, creamy shades such as ivory, ecru and eggshell are also found in a wedding. the tradition of white wedding dress or gown became popular in United Kingdom in the year 1840 with the marriage of Queen Victoria which still continues today.

Red is the favoured colour of a bridal wedding dress in many eastern cultures; thus, red wedding dresses are quite often the norm at marriages there. Many wedding dresses are coloured red in China where it is considered as the traditional colour for good luck. A bridal wedding dress is also the symbol of social standing of the person who is getting married.

Brides would want to dress in a fashionably done wedding dress in rich colours and expensive fabrics.
