The company was founded in a small country cottage in Warwickshire by Richard Cooper. Starting in 1978 as the "Richard Cooper and Company", it initially produced a simple range of garden bird figurines in small numbers. Richard Cooper worked on the new idea of producing sculptures by mixing traditional materials with resins. This innovation went on to create a whole new design process which resulted in life-like collectibles. It allowed figurines and sculptures to feature more detailed, exquisite designs which were not possible previously. Eventually, the company was named Country Artists and thereafter started producing a wide range of gift items and figurines.
