Franklin MintFranklin Mint is a private company founded by Joseph Segel. The corporation is based in Exton, Pennsylvania and markets collectibles of its personal designs. The company initially marketed privately-minted silver and gold commemorative medallions and rounds. It later started marketing other type of collectibles. It mainly depends on direct mail and media print ads for its sales. When the worth of silver dollars, used in Nevada casinos, became more than a dollar, Franklin Mint had replacement slot machine tokens. The company had its own variety of theme-based medals and ingots. They had limited editions of precious and semi-precious metals. These were available in fancy packaging, custom wood cases and certificates. Franklin Mint’s subdivision, called Franklin Library started in 1973, has a large number collections of classic works of literature in fine bindings. The company entered the die-cast car market beginning with the 1935 Mercedes Benz 500K Roadster. Franklin Mint’s other collectible items are figurines, chess sets, plates, collector knives, Monopoly sets and other board games, coins, plaques, medals, porcelain plates featuring images of actors as well as other collectibles. The book ’Guidebook of Franklin Mint Issues’ written by Chester L. Krause offers information on all issues of the Mint, along with original price, mintages and even current retail value. |
