Hornby DubloHornby Dublo is a model railway toy created by the Hornby Railways. Railway modelling is a popular hobby and it involves modelling rail transport systems at a reduced scale. One of the major manufacturers of model railways, Hornby Railways was founded in 1901 by Frank Hornby. Frank Hornby started his career with the launch of Meccano construction toy for which he received a patent. A clockwork 0 gauge (1:48) model, released in 1920 was the first toy train made by Hornby, which was then known as Meccano Ltd. This was followed by Hornby Dublo, the highly acclaimed 00 gauge train model, which was released in 1938. It featured die-cast locomotives whereas the carriages and wagons were of tinplate. Hornby Dublo trains were electric train models running on 12V DC making them extremely safe toys. Today the company is recognised as Hornby Hobbies and it still produces high end train toys. In 2003, the company manufactured its first steam powered 00 gauge locomotive model of the famous Mallard train. Currently, Hornby produces train models of various popular British locomotives like the Class 60, Class 50, Class 30 and Class 08. Apart from the Hornby Dublo train sets, the company also produces Hornby Dublo spares which are readily available on the online market. |
