Model cars are toy versions of different makes of cars manufactured by major automobile manufacturers, usually featuring all the external styling and design as that of the real automobile. These miniatures of production vehicles are generally manufactured as model car kits for enthusiast to construct.

Model cars are generally made of die-cast metal, plastic, resin and even wood. Diecast model car are produced in various models sizes like 1:18, 1:24, 1:48, and 1:43. Most of these models feature incredible detailing in terms of the final look and finish of the actual model. Some of the popular brands that produce model cars include Abrex, AUTOart, Dinky Toy, Hot Wheels and Minichamps. Creating car models began as a hobby in the post World War II era with the popularity of the cars created by Ace and Berkeley wooden model cars. By the 1950's to 1960's, more and more companies started producing and showcasing model cars as interest in the hobby peaked. The period between 1950's to 1960's was considered as the "golden age" for model car kits. These kits were known as the "annual" kits and were actual kit versions of the new car models that were going to introduced by different manufacturers.
