PokemonPokemon is a media franchise owned by video game company Nintendo. It was created by Satoshi Tajiri in 1995 and has become the second most successful and lucrative videogame-based media franchise in the world. The term "PokÈmon", refers to the PokÈmon franchise and also collectively to the 493 fictional species that have made appearances in different PokÈmon media. In the ’Pokemon Universe’ (video games and general fiction), players of the game are designated as PokÈmon Trainers, who complete the PokÈdex by collecting all of the available PokÈmon species found in the fictional region of the game area. In many games, a trainer can capture a wild PokÈmon that he encounters by throwing at it a specially designed PokÈ Ball. Originally Pokemon games were role-playing games (RPG) created for the Game Boy. Its first generation Pokemon game, which was internationally released was the ’PokÈmon Red and Blue’. In 2000, the first second-generation Pokemon game title was launched. This game was called the ’PokÈmon Gold and Silver’ and was for the Game Boy Colour console. Nintendo later released the ’Pokemon Crystal’ along with a 100 new species of PokÈmon. The third generation Pokemon game, the ’PokÈmon Ruby and Sapphire’, was launched for the Game Boy Advance in 2003, which was followed by the fourth-generation Nintendo DS based ’PokÈmon Diamond and Pearl’ in 2006. Pokemon franchise has spawned an assortment of merchandise like Pokemon cards, toys, books, comics, anime series and other media. Various websites like ’Pokemon Crater’ offer online Pokemon games. |
