Royal Doulton LadiesFigurines from the Royal Doulton Company are known as ’Royal Doulton Ladies’. This English company is famous for making tableware and collectables of various sorts. The Company started as a partnership between Martha Jones, John Doulton, and John Watts at a factory in London. It acquired the name Doulton in 1853. Initially, the company started its operations in London and then moved on to the city of The Potteries in England. Later John Doulton’s son, Henry Doulton started a studio at the Lambeth pottery. Here he employed artists and designers from a local art school. In 1882, Doulton went ahead and purchased the factory of Pinder, Bourne & Co, at Nile Street in Burslem, Staffordshire . Stoneware and ceramics became the speciality of Doulton under the creative direction of John Slater. He produced a wide variety of figurines, character jugs, vases and other decorative pieces. After the products of the company were noticed by the Royal family, King Edward VII in 1901 granted the royal warrant to the Burslem factory. Doulton now became Royal Doulton and its business adopted new markings. Soon, the company earned fame for making high-quality and fashionable bone china and continued adding new products. Today, Royal Doulton Ladies figurines are quite popular. The main brands are Royal Doulton, Royal Albert, and Minton. The company is now a part of Waterford Wedgwood group and it's products include dinnerware, porcelain, glassware, giftware, collectables, cookware, jewellery, curtains, linens and lighting, among other items. |
