TriangTriang or Tri-ang Railways was a reputed British maker of toy trains since Victorian times. In the beginning, wooden toys were produced by George and Joseph Lines who together formed G & J Lines Ltd. Walter, William and Arthur Edwin Lines, three sons of Joseph Lines, set up Lines Bros Ltd immediately after World War I. The term ’Triang’ came into existence as a play on the surname Lines ñ three lines form a triangle. The Triang Railways systems was mainly developed by Richard Lines, the son of Arthur. Line Bros took over Rovex Plastic Ltd as they wanted to expand into making toy railway sets. In 1951, their toy sets were marketed under the Triang Railways name. They set up a new production facility for these toys in Kent in the year 1954. In the 1960s, they took over Hornby Dublo, a division of Meccano Ltd and launched the Triang Hornby toy railways sets despite most of the models being wholly Tri-ang. Some popular models of Triang railway toys were the Triang OO, Triang Minic, Triang TT and Triang Big Big Trains. Triang trains have been very popular with British children since the 1950s. You can also purchase Triang spares and parts from online sites. Several other models have been made using the Triang name such as car pedals and doll houses. |
