Computer CaseA computer case is known by several names like computer cabinet, chassis, tower, box, enclosure or housing. It is the computer case that houses all the major components of a computer including the motherboard, hard disk, power unit, memory card, graphics card, etc. The chassis usually comes in a rectangular shape and is fabricated from aluminium, steel or plastic. Even materials like wood and Plexiglas are used in designing some chassis. There is a diverse range of choices of computer cases as far as shape, form factor and colour is concerned. The size and design of the chassis is largely based on the form factor of the motherboard that it is designed to accommodate. This is so, because all the main components of the computer are connected to the motherboard. For instance, a chassis constructed for an ATX motherboard may come in different external forms, such as a vertical tower or a horizontal one. These items are also available in full-size tower cases that are bigger than the typical desktop cases. Such cases provide more space for drive bays and expansion slots. Even transparent chassis are available that offer everyone a good view of the various internal devices of the computer. Other varieties include laptop computer cases, custom computer cases as well as mini-tower cases that are usually used in business environments where space comes at a premium. |
