Computer GamesComputer games widely known as PC games are video games played on a personal computer. They are created by one or more game developers and are generally built around a central piece of software, known as a game engine. "Spacewar" was the first computer game developed by MIT students Martin Graetz and Alan Kotok, with MIT employee Stephen Russell, in 1961. In this game, the player could communicate with the computer by inscribing commands through a keyboard. Computer games are categorised into genres like action, sports, adventure, strategic and so on, and usually require specialised internal hardware. These internal hardware devices are generally known as "add-on expansion cards", like graphic cards for higher image quality, sound card for greater audio output or LAN card for connecting two or more personal computers for playing multi-player games on one network. Besides these devices other computer peripherals include headsets for better communication in online games, joysticks for flight machines, steering wheels for driving games and game pads for console-style games. Now-a-days, several computer games are distributed on physical media like DVDs and CDs, at affordable prices. Some of these games are also downloadable from the Internet. Players can also try plying limited part these games for free. Some of the popular computer games include Doom, Blood Rayne, Mafia, Tomb Raider, and Half-Life. |
