As computers get faster and faster with advancing technology, they also generate a lot of heat and noise owing to the heat generated by different parts of the computer and the noise produced by the increased number of cooling fans. The need for cooling fans is more with computers specially designed for graphic, video editing and other high-end uses. The more the number of fans, the more will be the need for cooling, and the greater the need for fan controllers.

The latest graphic processors and CPUs come equipped with giant heatsinks and cooling fans above them. The presence of many fans running at full speed generates a lot of noise even when the computer is not running any software applications. To make optimum utilization of power and to reduce heat, PC fan controllers are used to regulate the speed of fans. Fan speed controllers help to reduce the RPM (rotation per minute) of fans when the computer is not functioning at peak performance. The fan speed can be regulated by controlling the voltage that powers the fans. Auto fan controllers control the speed of fans on the basis of feedback received from the temperature monitors that also measure the temperature of the computer case. Reducing the RPM of fan reduces the airflow, power consumption and the overall noise level generated by the fans.
