FujitsuJapanese company Fujitsu was founded in 1935, under the name Fuji Tsushinki Seizo. The company has its headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. It is a spinoff of the Fuji Electric Company, which was again a joint venture between the Furukawa Electric Company and German conglomerate Siemens. Fujitsu deals in software and services, computing and communications platforms, Microelectronic products, telecommunication products and electronic devices. It manufactured Japan’s first computer in 1954, called the ’FACOM 100’. In 1961, the company made the transistorized FACOM 222. Kawasaki Frontale, a soccer club, was founded by Fujitsu in 1955. In 1981, Fujitsu took over International Computers Ltd (ICL) in the U.K; the acquired company was renamed Fujitsu Services, in 2002. Fujitsu built the FM Towns PC variant from February 1989 to 1997. The FM Towns Marty, which was a gaming console compatible with the FM Towns games, was released in 1993. In 1997, the company Amdahl Corporation became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fujitsu. In 1999, the partnership with Siemens AG was revived in the form of Fujitsu Siemens Computers, which is at present Europe’s largest IT supplier. Fujitsu Software Corporation merged with Fujitsu Computer Systems Corporation in 2006. Fujitsu’s computing products division include LifeBook notebook computers, ethernet switches and ETERNUS storage for enterprise environments, among others. |
