MediaIn computer science, media refers to devices or objects like a disk, which is used for storing data. This data is retained in the storage media for a considerable period . Different storage media devices used in a computer include optical disks, external hard drives, magnetic disks and flash memory. Hard disks are used as primary storage in modern computers. There are drives for floppies, CDs, DVDs and other storage media for catering to the input and output of data. These media devices are compact so that they could be stored easily in compartments and shelves at homes and offices. They are also lightweight and portable such that they could be carried easily from place to place. These properties are good for mobile computing when users work on-the-go. The materials used for these media are usually of good quality such that they do not get affected easily by the external environment and such other factors. The data in the storage media could be accessed either by random access or sequential access methods. There are several kinds of storage media such as Read/Write storage, Read Only storage, Slow Read/Fast Write storage, etc. DVD media, DVD -R media DVD+R media and CD ñR media are extremely popular in most European countries. |
