PlayStationPlayStation is a fifth-generation video console game, first developed by Sony Computer Entertainment. It was launched in Japan on December 3, 1994; in the United States on September 9, 1995; in Europe on September 29, 1995; and in the Asia-Pacific region in November 1995. As of March 2005, Sony has sold a total of over 100.49 million units of PlayStation gaming consoles, becoming the first home game console to ever reach the 100 million mark. As of September 2006, 7,902 software titles have been released worldwide with cumulative software shipment of 961 million units. Sony PlayStation features a CPU unit that features a RISC chip running at 33.8688 MHz, plus Geometry Transformation Engine and the Data Decompression Engine, along with Graphics processing unit, Sound processing unit, memory chip and a CD-ROM drive. It included games like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Crash Bandicoot, Final Fantasy VII, Gran Turismo, Grand Theft Auto, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver , Metal Gear Solid, Parasite Eve, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, Spyro The Dragon, Tekken, Tomb Raider, Twisted Metal, Wipeout and FIFA Football 2005. PlayStation was the first console of the well-known PlayStation console series. The series later on included successor consoles and upgrades like the Net Yaroze (a special black PS with tools and instructions to program PS games and applications), PS One (a smaller version of the original PlayStation console), the PlayStation 2 (and a revised, slimline PS2), PlayStation Portable (a handheld gaming console) and PlayStation 3 (seventh generation video game). |
