6G iPodWith the launch of the Apple iPod, listening to music has never been the same. Launched on 23 October, 2001, the first generation Apple iPod revolutionised the consumer electronics market. With the advent of the iPod Mini (first generation) on January 6, 2004, people had access to a better performing music player that also had a sleek design and a sharper LCD display screen. The first generation of iPod Mini (now known as iPod 4Gb/6Gb) as available with only 4 Gb of storage capacity would make for storing up to approximately 1,000 songs compressed in MP3 format. This version featured only a monochrome LCD screen and ran off the proprietary Mac OS X operating system, albeit in a stripped down version. The second generation iPod Mini is available since the February 22, 2005 in either of 4 Gb or 6Gb storage capacity and sleek body shells. The apparent difference in body structures lay in the available colours including a Collector’s Edition Gold iPod Mini. The term 6G iPod also refers to the sixth generation of the iPod, now termed the ’iPod Classic’. This version is an improvised and updated version of the iPod Video (fifth generation), which was initially available only in 30 Gb, 60 Gb or 80 Gb storage capacity. The sixth generation features either an 80 Gb or 160 Gb storage space for copying copious amounts of video and audio media files using the bundled (or freely downloadable) Apple iTunes software. This edition also sports a superior quality LCD display screen and better battery life. |
