AudioquestAudioQuest is an American manufacturer of audio interconnects, speaker cables, video cables, power cables, audio/video adapters, DVI cables and custom-install audio/video equipment. AudioQuest was founded in the year 1980 by Bill Low. The company initially served as an extension of the numerous "audio activities" that Bill had indulged in since 1972. While in high school and college, Bill built many Heathkit and Dynakit amplifiers, preamps and tuners for his friends and classmates. Later he started a retail shop dealing in Linn Sondek, Radford and Yamaha products. He also started manufacturing audio cables, and in 1977 manufactured his first audio cable, which he calls the "original recipe". Sales of this cable picked up and Bill formed AudioQuest to expand in the market. In 1980, Bill manufactured an audio cable for a sub-woofer manufacturer, which had four spiralling conductors instead of two and hence delivered better performance. By late 1980, AudioQuest also began manufacturing the LiveWire Litz Green, a cable with six spiralling conductors. Around the same time, Bill realised that harder PVC jackets of the cable meant better sound, and consequently AudioQuest began manufacturing cables which laid significant importance on mechanical stability. In 1987, AudioQuest began manufacturing 75 O video and digital cables. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, AudioQuest began manufacturing S, component, RGB video cables and cables meant for satellite dishes and HDTV. |
