DVD RewriterDVD rewritable formats are of three types: DVD-RW, DVD+R, and DVD-RAM. To rewrite a DVD, one needs a DVD rewriter. A DVD-RW is a rewritable optical disc with storage capacities of 4.7 GB per disc, and is playable in a number of conventional DVD players. Its biggest advantage is its ability to erase all data and rewrite once more. Such discs may be written to about 1,000 times before the need of replacement arises. DVD-RW discs are commonly used for storing back up data or collections of files. They are also for DVD video recorders at home (essentially DVD rewriters). A benefit of the rewritable disc is the disc’s not being harmed if there are any errors when recording. One can erase the whole disk and write data once again using any internal DVD rewriter drive installed either in a PC or even a Mac. DVD+R, like the DVD-RW, can store data up to about 4.7GB per disc. This format supports random write access which allows data to be added without having to erase the whole disc, as many as a thousand times over. This format was developed mainly for storing discrete sets of data, or as discs that could be recycled and used for back up of important files. This format like the A DVD-RW may not be used for permanent storage whether on the home front or in offices, but is a cost effective solution for inexpensive multiple temporary recordings. |
