FerrographWright and Weaire Ltd., later known as the British Ferrograph Recorder Co. Ltd., was one of the pioneering manufacturers of tape recorders in the U.K. This company was owned by Joseph Wright and Thomas Weaire. The duo made several radio components, plugs, sockets, etc., before the British Ferrograph Recorder Co. Ltd. or Ferrograph came into existence. In 1948, a team of six technical engineers manufactured the first Ferrograph recorder. Ferrograph produced several high-performance tape recorder models through the years. Their model ’D’ tape recorder was targetted towards domestic users. The Ferrograph Company shifted towards the North East and closed their Tottenham factory. Later, an office was opened on Sloane Street, Knightsbridge in London. A showroom and demonstration facility was afterwards opened to promote the sales of their products. The Ferrograph Tape Recorder, which was launched soon after the inauguration of the Ferrograph Co., is their most prestigious tape recorder. Another popular Ferrograph product was the Series 7 recorder. The F307 integrated amplifier was the company’s first hi-fi product. After 1968, Ferrograph made several additions to their hi-fi range and became a popular name in the field of consumer electronics. Vintage Ferrograph products are much sought after in the UK. There are skilled persons who can repair Ferrograph tape recorders. |
