FM TransmitterFM transmitters are portable devices that convert the audio output of the parent device into FM radio signals, which are then received by the second device compatible to receive them. In this way, it is possible to connect two compatible audio or video devices. For example, if one wishes to play his/her favourite iPod songs on the car audio device, it can be done by attaching an FM transmitter to the iPod, which will then convert the audio output of the iPod into FM frequencies, which will be received by car audio. An FM transmitter can be attached to various audio or video devices such as iPod, MP3 players, CD players, or satellite radio systems. One can also plug an FM transmitter to the headphone jack. These transmitters work within a short range of up to 30 feet and broadcast the songs on FM frequencies ranging from 87.9 to 107.9 MHz in US and 76.0 to 108.0 MHz outside US. FM transmitters generally run on batteries. Some of these transmitters may also operate on cigarette lighter socket incorporated in the car. Other than broadcasting from popular audio devices such as CD players, or MP3 players, an FM transmitter is often attached to the computer sound card. This helps in broadcasting the songs on one computer to the radio receiver that may be located in another building or home. Whole House FM Transmitter, iTrip transmitter and Belkin’s FM Tunecast are some good examples of FM transmitters available in the market. |
