EasterEaster is supposed to be the biggest feast in the Christian calendar, as the foundation of Christianity is based on the resurrection of Jesus Christ. According to lore, three days after his death from crucifixion at the hands of the Romans, Jesus overcame death and bodily rose from his tomb into heaven. Down the years, Easter has been celebrated across the world to rejoice for this glorious event. Even though Easter is celebrated in varied ways in different countries, most of the basic traditions remain the same. The most famous of the items that represent the spirit of this day are the Easter eggs. These eggs are not the conventional chicken eggs. Rather they are sweets made into the shape of an egg. Sporting a number of innovative shapes, these eggs are also rendered with bright colours. A commonly followed practice is to carve out a small effigy of a tiny chick rising out of the surface of the egg. The eggs are made of chocolate or cashew. Sometimes, the eggs may be coated in eye-catching foil. Other than these eggs, there are also marshmallow bunnies and jelly beans. Another popular tradition is the sending of Easter cards to relatives and friends. While these cards can be bought in a store, some people prefer to add a personal touch to by making them on their own. Often the cards are cut into shapes that depict Easter stories. Home decoration is also avidly done in the Easter season. Buntings and other glittering items add a touch of festivity to the room. |
