qvcQVC, standing for Quality, Value, Convenience, is a multinational brand specialising in televised home shopping. The company was established in 1986 by Joseph Segel and broadcasts its shows across four countries: US, UK, Germany and Japan. QVC’s first official broadcast took place on 24th November 1986 at 7:30 ET. It was hosted by Kathy Levine and Bob Bowersox. Initially, it was running for 16 hours a day and in 1987 the duration was increased to 24 hours. In 1993, QVC, Inc. entered into a deal with British Sky Broadcasting (BSkyB) to create a UK version of the channel. The channel broadcasted their first programme on 1st October in UK. Two years later, the company was acquired by Comcast. With entry into the online medium in 1996, the company started functioning in the online market, allowing its customer to purchase their products online via Microsoft Network. In 2001, the company opened a flagship store, QVC @ the Mall at the Mall of America in Minnesota. QVC also partnered with AOL and launched a free, live, streaming version of the channel on AOL Video.
