YarnYarn is extremely essential in the manufacture of textiles and fabrics. It is also needed for sewing, crocheting, knitting, weaving and embroidery. Different varieties of yarn are available for different purposes. Yarn is usually made from natural or synthetic fibres. Some of the common natural fibres include cotton, wool, cashmere, silk, mohair and linen. Yarn is also spun from feathers of birds like turkey or ostrich and hairs of animals like wolf, rabbit, camel, yak or buffalo. These natural fibres are usually breathable, warm and elastic. Natural yarn made of natural fibres usually needs extra care as they have a tendency of shrinking, stretching, wrinkling and staining. Synthetic fibres like acrylic and nylon are used to make yarn. Yarns are also made with a combination of natural and synthetic fibres. Hand Hand-spun yarn is made by spinning the fibres by hand. These are usually made with natural fibres like llama, mohair, angora and silk. Hand spun yarn is used while when knitting and crocheting. Different types of knitting yarn are available; Ttwo types of wool are used to make knitting yarn, namely ñ worsted and woollen. Yarn made with worsted wool is usually smooth and firm, while the one made with woollen is less strong and fuzzy. Filament yarn is made up of filament fibres that are twisted together. Organic yarn is also quite popular among clothes makers. |
