AladdinAladdin is a fictitious character that featured in a Walt Disney movie titled ’Aladdin’. Aladdin is a street urchin who stays in Agrabah. The place where he resides overlooks the palace, where his future lover princess Jasmine stays. The film then juxtaposes between Aladdin, who wishes to be a prince and Jasmine, who is fed-up of her sophisticated life wants to explore the "outer-world". Aladdin’s only friend then is Abu, a monkey. Later, he finds a magical lamp and eventually Genie as well as a magic carpet called ’Kalin’. Evil Jafar, the vizier (chief minister) of Sultan, plans a plot against Sultan and wants to get married to Jasmine for overtaking the throne of Agrabah. Two sequels of the movie, ’The Return of Jafar’ and ’Aladdin and the King of Thieves’ and the TV series revolve around magical adventures that Aladdin encounters and emerges a winner with the help of his friends. Lago, the parrot of Jafar, joins Aladdin’s friend’s list in the first sequel. The story was written, produced and directed by John Musker and Ron Clements. Characters were given voice by popular voice artists such as Scott Weinger (Aladdin), Robin Williams (Genie), Jonathan Freeman (Jafar), Linda Larkin (Jasmine), Frank Welker (Abu) and Gilbert Gottfried (Lago). The popularity of the movie can be judged by repetitious DVD sales, multiple sequels, overwhelming sales of merchandises and the awards that it has garnered. The movie has won two Oscars ñ one of them for Best Music and other 20 awards across numerous prestigious award titles. |
