BladeBlade was a movie trilogy derived from the famous Marvel Comics character by the same name. The three Blade films (ëBladeí, ëBlade IIí and ëBlade: Trinityí) appeared between 1998 and 2004 and starred Wesley Snipes in the lead role. It also featured Jessica Biel and other noted stars. Writer Marv Wolfman and artist Gene Colan created the character Blade for Marvel Comics in 1973. To begin with, Blade was just a supporting character in the ëTomb of Draculaí comics. Bladeís genesis as a vampire came from the fact that his mother was the victim of a vampire bite while she was bearing him. That resulted to Bladeís emergence as a human with vampire genes ñ also called a ëdhampirí. The American TV adaptation of the immensely successful Blade films was ëBlade: The Seriesí. Rather short-lived, it launched on June 28, 2006 with Kirk ëStickyí Jones in the title role. Director Peter OíFallon made this small-screen adaptation shortly after ëBlade: Trinityí, using David S. Goyerís script. His initial plan to feature both Wesley Snipes and Jessica Biel in the show fell flat, and the result was that ëBlade: The Seriesí lacked any real star backing. In the pilot episode, Blade continues on events shown in ëBlade: Trinityí that revolve around the biological weapon called Daystar. This weapon specifically isolates and kills vampires. |
