Carry OnThe ’Carry on’ series of films are British comedy creations, which became instant hits due to their superior humour content. However, since these movies included some nudity as well, they were mostly targeted at an adult audience. Directed by Gerald Thomas and produced by Peter Rogers, these films were made with a tight budget. Filmed between 1958 and 1978, these films combined elements of slapstick comedy, parody and double meaning dialogues. The series was composed of 29 films with one extra movie released in 1992. Made mostly in the UK based Pinewood Studios, the films featured many talented comedians. While most of the actors were changed over a period of time, some of the more famous permanent actors included Charles Hawtrey, Sid James, Joan Sims, Kenneth Williams, Bernard Bresslaw and last but not the least, Barbara Windsor. The popularity of the ’Carry On’ films was due to the fact that they incorporated easily understandable, ’down-to-earth’ humour. Additionally, the element of comedy was embedded in normal everyday settings and included known professions such as doctors, nurses, and royalty. Sporting jokes were also played on foreigners and campers. From the first film, ’Carry on Sergeant’ to the sexually explicit last one, ’Carry on Emmanuelle’, the film saga has garnered a loyal fan following among people of all ages. Some of the more popular ’Carry on’ movies include Carry in Cabby, Carry on Jack, Carry on Cleo, Carry on screaming, Carry on Doctor, Carry on up the Khyber, Carry on Loving, Carry on matron, Carry on abroad and Carry on girls. |
