Clint EastwoodAmerican actor, composer, director and producer Clint Eastwood was born on 31st May, 1930 in San Francisco. Originating from a middle class Protestant home, Clint Eastwood often moved from place to place since his father did various jobs along the West Coast. In his teens, Eastwood settled in Piedmont, California along with his family and graduated in 1949 from Oakland Technical High School. Later, he served in the United States Army before taking up professional acting. He initially made appearances in B-grade movies like ’Tarantula’, ’Revenge of the Creature’ and ’Francis in the Navy’. Subsequently, the television show that made him a household name was ’Rawhide’ that truly launched him towards a film career. During the 1960s, Clint Eastwood played lead roles in box office hits like ’Man With No Name’ in Sergio Leone’s loose trilogy of westerns ñ ’A Fistful of Dollars’ (1964), ’For a Few Dollars More’ (1965) and ’The Good, the Bad and the Ugly’ (1966). He redefined the image of an American cowboy with these films and it also made him an international star. It also set a ’tough guy’ image on Clint Eastwood that would stay with him for a long time. The year 1971 brought a turning point to his career, since his role as hard-edged police inspector, ’Harry Callahan’ in the film ñ Dirty Harry became the most memorable one. The film was a box-office smash hit. His other famous and successful movies are Magnum Force (1973), The Enforcer (1976), and The Dead Pool (1988), High Plains Drifter (1973), Every Which Way But Loose (1978), Sudden Impact (1983) and ’Unforgiven’ in 1992 among many others. The band "Gorillaz" composed a single named "Clint Eastwood" and released it in March 2001. |
