CraneA crane is a mechanical lifting device which is used to lift and move material and goods. The lifting mechanism of the crane is electrically powered, electricity for which might be generated by means of a diesel generator or might be supplied onsite. Some cranes are also hydraulically powered; however these are usually limited in size and scope. Cranes are complex machines, and make use of multiple simple mechanisms in a manner that it is able to lift heavier loads with the least amount of energy possible. Cranes are widely used in construction, freight hauling, manufacturing, ship-building, mining, etc. Cranes are of many types and may be stationary or mobile. Mobile cranes include truck-mounted cranes, rough terrain cranes, crawler cranes, etc. Stationary cranes include railway cranes, telescopic cranes, tower cranes, hammerhead cranes, etc. Besides there are also gantry cranes, aerial cranes, overhead cranes, etc. Due to their imposing nature and engineering marvel, cranes (especially truck-mounted cranes and railway cranes) have long been modelled into toys. Toy cranes and toy crane trucks are included in toy construction kits or are sold off as individual toys. Crane building blocks are also extremely popular, and some of these might also incorporate electronic radio controls, miniature hydraulics, motors, etc.
