CrashCrash is set in Los Angeles and the drama film deftly deals with racial and social issues of today. Inspired by a real life incident of carjacking in 1991, director Paul Haggis passionately brings forth the good nature of humans that often gets caught up in prejudices. Crash was premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2004 and went on to win three Oscars at the 78th Academy Awards. Crash won an Oscar under the Best Picture, Best Editing of 2005 and also the Best Original Screenplay categories. Directed, written and co-produced by Paul Haggis, the film stars Matt Damon, Ryan Phillippe, Sandra Bullock, Don Cheadle, Brendan Fraser, Thandie Newton and more. Since the film had a tight budget of £3.2 million, Haggis used his own house, car, used cars of his staff members and a set from a TV show while filming. The film was a success and in the domestic film market it grossed £26.6 million. In 2005 the film was also released on DVD with many additional features. The story starts with an accident involving many cars. It then unfolds a day before the crash from the point of view of the various characters involved in the crash. The characters are shown with many shades ñ there is a LAPD cop, black policeman, black couple, a socialite, Mexican locksmith and more. |
