ThundercatsThundercats television series was developed in 1983 by Rankin/Bass Production Company. This American animation television series was distributed by Lorimar-Telepictures and the characters were crafted by Tobin "Ted" Wolf. The series was basically a blend of science-fiction and fantasy. Most of the series used ëThird Earthí as the main stage for ThunderCats adventures. It was not clear whether ëThird Earthí defined a future version of our Earth, or an alternate reality of Earth during pre-historic times. It also hinted at an ancient Egyptian culture being present on this ëThird Earthí. The series begins with the story of destruction of the Thundera planet, which is home to the ThunderCats. The characters of the series comprise Lion-O, Jaga, Tygra, Panthro, Cheetara, Mumm-Ra, WilyKit and WilyKat among others. Several comic books based on ThunderCats have been released since 1985. Initially these comics were published by Marvel Comics. ThunderCats comics were later published by DC comics, which was owned by Warner Brothers in 2002. Between 1985 and 1987, the toymaker LJN also produced ThunderCats action figures. In 1986, a television movie based on the ThunderCats series called ëThunderCats - HO!í was aired, which consisted of 65 episodes. The showís theme song was performed by American pop-rock band ëThe Rembrandtsí. DVDs of the ThunderCats series together with ThunderCats merchandise like t-shirts, coffee mugs and posters are available online. |
