The name of the movie is based on an event in the book, not a part of the film, where the two characters Begbie and Renton meet. Trainspotting is based on a novel of the same name written by Irvine Welsh characters in the movie choose a carefree heroin induced life over familial bliss. As the story progresses it highlights the characters tryst with addiction and their constant struggles to combat the addiction. The director expressed his wish of making a sequel to the movie. The soundtracks of the movie were best sellers. In the mid 90s a stage version was adapted from the book which later inspired the making of the film in the UK. Many parodies of the movie were also made. The Guardian credited the film for being representative of the youth culture. The first 20 minutes were edited in the US version which was later restored in the DVDs criterion collection and the collector’s edition. The Trainspotting movie continues to be popular for its ground breaking portrayal of the lives of drug addicts.
