AmateurThe word amateur is generally used to refer to someone who engages in an art, science, study or athletic activity as a pastime rather than as a profession. In terms of work, amateur is more commonly used to refer to someone performing some task without pay, unlike a "professional" who is paid for the same task. Amateur video and filmmaking is an activity that is gaining popularity these days. Its popularity is attributed to the easy availability of video cameras, camcorders and digital storage devices. The digital revolution has made the making of amateur home movies more affordable and easier for an average person. These videos are usually made by young and aspiring filmmakers. With easy availability and affordability of consumer equipments, the distinction between amateur movie-making and professional movie-making is becoming increasingly blurred. Lately, amateur movies made by amateurs have been uploaded to many popular sites, which have gained popularity. The availability of high-speed connections and the resultant popularity of the Internet has facilitated newer ways of sharing home movies including amateur blogs like video weblogs and video podcasts. Many amateur movies have also become popular on account of the proliferation of social networking websites. Several movies have also been made with amateur names and themes including The Amateur (1982) and the latest film (under production) with the same name, which is yet to be released in 2007. |
