BodyshopThe Bodyshop, the short form for The Body Shop International plc, is a UK-based cosmetics company having outlets across the globe and numerous customers from all walks of life. The Bodyshop concept saw its origins in the 1960s in a San Francisco Bay Area based store dealing in various body lotions, creams and shampoos. While this store changed its name to ’Body Time’ in the early 1980s, the copyright to the ’Body Shop’ name was sold to an entrepreneur, Anita Roddick, who converted this venture into a global behemoth. Roddick’s association with the company began in 1970 when she stumbled upon the shop in San Francisco. Thereafter, she opened the first Bodyshop outlet in 1976 in Brighton, UK, marketing around 25 homemade beauty enhancing products. The face and body washes manufactured by Body Shop were rejuvenating and moisturizing, incorporating natural ingredients like rhassoul mud and jojoba oil. The products on offer, today, include body and skincare items, bath products, make-up and hair care solutions and even a line-up of fragrances. Bodyshop has always strived to keep environmental issues paramount in all of its undertakings. From the 1986 association with Greenpeace and the ’Save the Whales’ foundation, to the 1990 partnership with the ’Friends of the Earth’ organization, the company has been at the forefront of the aim to make this world a better place to live in. |
