GlassesIt is a well known fact that sight is one of the most precious of all the senses. Deterioration of vision can be a major inconvenience for anyone. While there will be a certain amount of reduction in eyesight as one ages, there are a number of products available to alleviate this drawback. One of the most common methods of ensuring clear vision is the usage of glasses, also called spectacles. Using special lenses, glasses can correct any vision flaws. Glasses work by changing the focal length of the eye to ensure that a proper image is formed on the retina. The tradition of these lenses can be traced back to ancient Roman times and were favoured by Emperor Nero. Down the years, these inventions saw steady modifications. Italian inventor, Salvino D'Armate, pioneered in 1284 the manufacture of eyeglasses we are familiar with today. Glasses come in varied types depending on the vision defect. Glasses such as bifocals have differently powered lenses on the upper and lower halves and are used to correct myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. Sunglasses have tinted glasses and protect the eyes from the harsh rays of the sun. Nowadays, glasses have become a fashion statement too and designer glasses are much in demand. |
